#ThisIsMyFight... An important campaign for all of us.

July 5, 2017

Last month at the Fire Rescue Conference, the Association launched the “This is my fight” campaign in an effort to help prevent cancer among South Carolina’s firefighters.  The purpose of this campaign is to create greater awareness about the risk of cancer and show how firefighters can reduce this risk. Cancer is a threat to all firefighters including career and volunteers in big cities and rural communities across our state.  The “This is my fight” campaign is a social media campaign to reach all firefighters and especially the youngest generation.  This campaign highlights the best practices that nearly all firefighters can do to better protect themselves. It’s important that all firefighters recognize this threat so that they can take action to protect themselves.   We encourage all our members to view the cancer page on the association’s website and view the introductory video.  The page also includes short video clips of South Carolina firefighters protecting themselves from cancer.  There are also survivor stories from South Carolina firefighters who have experienced cancer and want t to share what they have learned.  Finally the page includes other resources such as links to other video resources, events and posters that can be downloaded and posted in fire stations.   Our hope is that firefighters across our state will participate in this campaign by watching the videos and posting videos of their own as we work to better protect ourselves from this dangerous threat.  Please take the time to look at these resources and share them with the members of your department.
