Apply today for the Leadership Institute

The South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association recognizes the need for an organized program that acts as a pipeline for higher leadership positions in the state’s fire service. The Leadership Institute is just that.

The year-long program is designed for those who want to do more – more for their communities, more for the state of South Carolina, more for their department.

Firefighters don’t like to sit still; while PowerPoints and classroom discussion have their place, the Leadership Institute focuses on hands-on projects that take students on a road trip of the state to expose them to the needs of departments of all levels.

Seeing how other departments operate may help your department overcome a particular challenge; or you may take an idea back to your Chief that improves your department’s functionality.

Additionally, LI provides numerous networking opportunities, allowing for and encouraging personal and professional development beyond the constraints of a traditional classroom.

Leadership Institute graduates are a special group of leaders and they continue to prove the value of the program through their skills and promotions. We’re excited for the next group of people to experience all that Leadership Institute provides.

Interested applicants are encouraged to gather all necessary documents well before the August 31 application deadline.

Documents include:

• A professional resume;
• A letter of recommendation from your chief, Association Past President or Executive Committee member;
• A letter of recommendation from an individual outside of the fire service;
• A comprehensive essay outlining your professional achievements and goals.
