Through a 2013 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) staffing for adequate fire and emergency services (safer) grant, the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association (SCSFA) procured a portable changeable message sign for the benefit of member departments. As stipulated in the grant, the sign will be utilized on a first-come-first basis to member departments.

The sign can be used for association activities and for member department activities such as recruitment and retention efforts and community risk reduction outreaches. The mobile sign, purchased from the American Signal Company, is identified as an AMSIG Webb Express sign. It is a self-contained battery-operated unit fully equipped with security devices located on the trailer hitch, battery compartments, wheel lug nuts, and axle. Messages can be created through the handheld controller or remotely.
