SCSFA Executive Director achieves lifelong goal

April 4, 2022

After successfully serving as the Executive Director for South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association for over two years Charlie King is leaving to fulfill a lifelong goal of serving as fire chief in his hometown of Anderson, S.C. Today, Monday, April 4, 2022, Charlie King started his first day as the City of Anderson Fire Chief.

During King’s time as Executive Director, several significant SCSFA objectives were achieved to include the passage and implementation of the Firefighter Cancer Health Care Benefit Plan, the successful navigation of multiple legislative funding for our fire service partners, two Fire-Rescue conferences, one of which was virtual, two Fire Service Improvement conferences, and of course all of this during a worldwide pandemic.

Chief King’s fire service career has surpassed 26 years and he doesn’t see an end any time soon. “I am grateful for my time with the Firefighters’ Association, serving both as chairs on the Executive Committee and then as Executive Director. The opportunity to serve and support 17,000 of our states bravest has been an honor. Each and every person there is fully committed to their work, because we know our fire service deserves it,” stated Chief Charlie King.

“It’s been a privilege to work hand in hand with Charlie this last year,” said SC State Firefighters’ Association President, Jamie Caggiano. “His leadership will be missed but I’m confident he will stay committed to the Association’s vision for the South Carolina fire service. Charlie is a dear friend and I wish him well on his new adventure.”

The SCSFA Executive Committee has hired Joe Palmer to fulfill the role as interim executive director. Palmer served as the 60th past president and past Executive Director of the Association from 2008-2018.

The SCSFA Executive Committee and staff look forward to continuing to work with Charlie King in his role as Anderson City Fire Chief.
