SC General Assembly Passes Firefighter Cancer Legislation

September 23, 2020

The SC Firefighter Cancer Coalition, South Carolina State Firefighters' Association's Executive Committee and SC Firefighters thank the members of the South Carolina Senate and House of Representatives for passing S1071, Firefighter Cancer Health Care Benefit Plan.   SC State Firefighters' Assoication President, Keith Minick stated, "This legislation has passed both the House and Senate and will be sent to the governor for action. The passage of this enabling legislation allows us to continue our work with our legislators in future legislative sessions to provide the funding for this bill. The General Assembly’s desire is to fund this legislation, but due to the uncertainties of the state’s budget we believe passing the legislation without funding was the best path forward. We will continue to work alongside our legislators in the upcoming session to obtain funding for the plan." We once again thank the members of the South Carolina Senate and House of Representatives for their continued support of the SC Fire Service and the Firefighter Cancer Health Care Benefit Plan.
