SC Fire Service Strategic Planning, 2012-2014

This information was approved by the Joint Council on October 10, 2012. Projects for the ideal future: The South Carolina Fire Service Strategic Plan 2012 Developing the Fire Service: A Professional Development System:
  1. Identify a professional development system for South Carolina Firefighters
  2. Identify a professional development system for South Carolina Fire Officers
  3. Identify a re-credentialing system for the South Carolina Fire Service
  4. Coordinate the professional system with SC OSHA to educate and seek consensus
  5. Communicate the new South Carolina Fire Service Professional Development System to the Fire Service.
The Deployment of South Carolina Emergency Services:
  1. Create a SC Firefighter Mobilization Strategic Plan
  2. Identify a deployment strategy for the South Carolina Fire Service
  3. Communicate the deployment strategy to the South Carolina Fire Service
  4. Expand the deployment strategy to other South Carolina emergency service disciplines.
  5. Roll out a new deployment strategy for the South Carolina emergency service disciplines.
Personnel Needs Analysis and Benefits:
  1. Create a South Carolina Fire Service Needs Analysis and Benefits Paper.
  2. Communicate the South Carolina Fire Service Needs Analysis and Benefits Paper to South Carolina elected and appointed officials.
  3. Seek support for the South Carolina Fire Service Needs Analysis and Benefits Paper by the South Carolina Legislature.
Fire Service Cohesion
  1. Develop a communication system that meets the needs of SC’s Fire Services.
  2. Develop an understanding with SC’s Fire Service Associations for consensus building.
  3. Create and collect data for good decision-making.
  4. Joint Council to review and revise their By-laws and create a common “playbook” to operate under.
Create a Risk Reduction/Fire Prevention Strategy for South Carolina
  1. Train and educate the fire service on risk reduction and prevention.
  2. Seek 100% reporting in NFIRS.
  3. Collate fire service data and communicate it to the state and local jurisdictions.
  4. Create Risk Reduction/Fire Prevention Programs based on risk and target hazard analysis.
  5. Identify, prioritize, and create needed legislation to support SC’s Risk Reduction/Prevention Strategies.
  6. Create a fire investigation strategy for SC. This strategy would ensure adequate cause determination and place an emphasis on the adequate investigation of all fires in SC.
