The S.C. Fire Academy proudly announces certification for Emergency Vehicle Responder: Awareness. This level of certification gives our emergency service partners the peace of mind that properly trained and equipped personnel are safely driving to an incident. This evaluation also is a step in the professional development process.
The South Carolina Fire Academy certification consists of a practical skill assessment and a written exam. Responders wishing to seek certification must:
- Successfully complete the Emergency Vehicle Response: Awareness class. The 1205 – POV class is also accepted.
- Possess a valid driver’s license. The license classification must be valid for the type of vehicle the responder typically drives to and from an emergency incident.
- Successfully complete the S.C. Fire Academy Vehicle Check and Road Test using their usual response vehicle. This could be a POV, a department staff or service vehicle, an ambulance, or a law enforcement vehicle. This evaluation is administered by your chief or designee.
- Successfully pass a multiple-choice S.C. Fire Academy certification written examination.
Responders who successfully complete this certification process will receive an S.C. Fire Academy Emergency Vehicle Responder: Awareness certificate in the mail.
