The American Red Cross is in need of volunteers to serve as Donor Ambassadors and Transportation Specialist. Donor Ambassadors are needed to welcome and greet donors, escort them as necessary and assist with hospitality after donation. Initial training is required as well as a background check at no charge. Blood drives occur all across the state so many options are available to serve in all locations. Donor Ambassadors are needed in Columbia, Florence, Sumter, Charleston, and Myrtle Beach. A schedule is provided monthly for sign-ups. Blood drives are between 5-6 hours usually and can be volunteered in shifts of 2-3 hours or more if a person wanted to participate for the entire drive.
Transportation Specialists are needed from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Columbia, S.C. to help transport blood and blood products to and from our customers. Initial training is required as well as a background and motor vehicle record check. Drivers should have a clean driving record for at least five years. The transportation opportunity is Mon – Fri for around three hours. Transportation Specialists are needed in Columbia only until our program expands. Possible future opportunities in Charleston.
