PRESS RELEASE April 23, 2013 Association Personnel Respond to West, Texas In the wake of the tragedy in West, Texas, the National Fallen Firefighters’ Foundation (NFFF) has requested several Association personnel to assist with recovery and planning operations. Association personnel will assist with the planning and execution of a memorial service to honor the fallen to be held Thursday, April 25, 2013. Staff and personnel were requested because of their experience with our own state tragedy, which took place on June 18, 2007 when nine Charleston firefighters lost their lives during the Sofa Super Store fire. Current Association president, Chief Billy Gibson, offers his comments: “It has often been said that nothing bad happens without something good coming out of it. Six years ago our state and Association were faced with this same situation, and we all came through the trial stronger and better prepared for difficult days like this. I am sure that you, like I, have been heart sick over this tragedy, but is my sincere hope that we can take our experience to the people who need us and use it to bring some comfort and hope. Pray for the people of West and surrounding areas, and for all of us as we go and minister to those folks who are struggling.” The NFFF has set up a relief fund to help the West community.
