Jim Flanagan Background Information
Jim Flanagan was a Captain and Training Officer for the Florence Fire Department.   He was an active fire instructor for the S.C. Fire Academy and was involved throughout the Pee Dee area in assisting fire departments with their programs.  He was active in supporting the training initiatives of the Pee Dee Firefighters’ Association and served as Training Officer.
Captain Flanagan was severely injured while crossing the highway during a mock training exercise near Florence and died on October 12, 1985.  Jim was a motivating instructor who mentored many firefighters throughout his career.  Because of his character, commitment to safety, training and leadership, this award is given annually in his name.
