Oconee County hosts Leadership Institute

Throughout the weekend, Oconee County Emergency Services had the unique opportunity help develop future leaders in fire and emergency service. Oconee County played host to the members of the S.C. State Firefighters’ Association’s Leadership Institute. The Institute is offered to individuals to improve and develop fire service leadership at the state level through networking and education pertaining to the many facets of the fire service profession.  The Leadership Institute is a twelve-month leadership development and educational process in an executive level environment emphasizing communications and group project based skills.

The participants, instructors and supporting staff spent the weekend at the Oconee State Park in Mountain Rest, S.C. and visited several venues in the area. The group spent time Friday in Clemson with public safety officials discussing the planning and operations centered around football games. The group discussed emergency planning and response with officials from Duke Energy including a tour of the Bad Creek Hydro Station in Salem. In addition to the topics listed below, participants heard from several local officials on topics specific to Oconee County.
