scfaolc_logoThe South Carolina Fire Academy Online Learning Community (SCFAOLC) proudly announces the release of its new online course ISFSI – Thinking Firefighters, A Study in Fire Attack for Single-Family Detached Dwellings. This course complements two other successful courses in the fire officer online training program series—ISFSI Modern Construction Considerations for Company Operations and Improving Tactical Decision Making. The Fire Academy teamed up with the International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Spartanburg Fire Department, and spent thousands of hours researching, planning, refurbishing and burning eight houses in Spartanburg, S.C. Experiments were conducted concerning the effects of various firefighting tactics. Alternative techniques were then compared to tactics commonly used to combat fires in single-family residences in the United States. During the research and production process, dozens of hours of videotape were captured, reviewed and edited.ISFSI Logo The ISFSI – Thinking Firefighters, A Study in Fire Attack for Single-Family Detached Dwellings training program discusses the Spartanburg research and extensive literature review, and serves as a resource for company officers throughout the nation. The purpose of this four-hour course is to help firefighters develop critical thinking skills and challenge them to evaluate the research, search for more information and address the question: Should we do it different? The SCFAOLC’s Open Enrollment Academy does not require preregistration—simply create an account and self-enroll using ISFSIThinkingFF as your enrollment key.
