COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Directors of the S.C. Firefighters’ Foundation are pleased to announce the appointment of Brigadier General Phil Leventis (retired) as Director of Development. Leventis, who also retired from the S.C. Senate after 32 years representing Sumter, Clarendon and Lee Counties, will be the first person to devote his entire efforts on behalf of the Foundation.
The S.C. Firefighters’ Foundation was created by the S.C. State Firefighters’ Association in 2001. For the past 15 years it has been dedicated to cooperatively working to find better ways of protecting the lives and property of all the citizens of our state from the ravages of fire and disaster. The charge of the Foundation is to promote efficient and effective firefighting, increase public awareness in the area of fire and life safety, enhance the public’s knowledge of firefighters and provide opportunities for personal and professional education for firefighters and their families.
Chief Jamie Caggiano, chairman of the Foundation Board of Directors, stated, “We are excited to have Senator Leventis on our team. He has always been a big supporter of the fire service, and his knowledge and experience will bring many good qualities to the development of the Foundation.”
Leventis said he is honored to be able to work for the Foundation that supports over 17,000 men and women across the state who serve as career and volunteer firefighters. He added, “These professionals are always there for us when we need them. The Foundation provides us a way to show our appreciation and support for the professionalism they display and the sacrifices they make to keep our families safe.”
