Fire Safe South Carolina announced last week the departments designated as a Fire Safe community. 154 departments across the state were named in the FSSC's press release. The program aims to reduce fire-related injuries—decreasing the risks for residents and firefighters alike—and promote consistent fire safety messaging and stress the importance of accurate fire scene data. Fire Safe South Carolina was launched in 2017 in a partnership between the Firefighters' Association, South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs, South Carolina Fire Marshal Association, South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Fire Investigators, and South Carolina State Fire.
“As a result of the hard work, commitment, and dedication of our 154 Fire Safe South Carolina fire departments and their community partners, more than half a million citizens were educated on ways to stay “Fire Safe,” Community Risk Reduction Chief Josh Fulbright said in the announcement. “Efforts will not stop there. We will continue to work together to educate even more people and implement other risk reduction practices proactively to get ahead of calls for service in South Carolina.”
Fire Safe South Carolina departments will be recognized during a ceremony at Fire-Rescue on Friday, June 14 from 3-5 p.m.
