Friday, June 14
9 a.m. – OSHA 1910.156 Rewrite Update with Joe Palmer
Join us as Joe shares information concerning the proposed OSHA standard changes to include the Association’s and our state partner’s position and actions.
9:45 a.m. – “Walkin’ the floor” with Joe and Will
The guys will just be walking the Exhibit Hall floor and talking to members, exhibitors, and attendees. This promises to be a good time – smile, you might just be on camera!
10:45 a.m. – Association Retirement Changes with Jamie Helms, Kim Bowman, Robert Key, and Milliman
There have been lots of changes to the management and administration of the Association retirement program over the past year. Tune in to meet Kim, Robert, and the folks from Milliman as the sit with Executive Director Helms to discuss all things retirement.
11:30 a.m. – Trends and Issues in the Fire Service with Jonah Smith
The fire service continues to evolve, and the guys sit down with Jonah Smith to discuss the trends, share the issues, and have good conversation.
12:15 p.m. – Burned Children’s Fund Update Malcolm Burns
The Association has partnered with the Burned Children’s Fund for many years. There have been big changes for the Burned Children’s fund in the past few years and we’re excited for the future. The guys sit down with President Burns to get the update.
1 p.m. – The History of Firefighter Rescue Operations with Jim Crawford
Chief Jim Crawford is joining us In the Box to discuss a topic always debated in the fire service: firefighter rescue operations. Don’t miss this lively discussion on the history of firefighter rescue ops and where we could be headed.
1:45 p.m. – The History and Paradigm Shifts of Air Management with Mike Gagliano
The guys are thrilled to welcome Mike Gagliano to In the Box to chat about air management. Mike is an author of “Air Management for the Fire Service” published in 2008 and will share the work he is doing with the Firefighter Air Coalition
2:30 p.m. – All Things SC Firefighters Foundation with Sarah Moore and Jamie Caggiano
Join the guys as they sit down with Sara and Jamie to discuss the Foundation. Whether it’s helping firefighters’ and their family or working with departments across the state, your Firefighters Foundation is for you.
3:15 p.m. – The History of the SC/NY Bagpipers with Billy McMillan
The history of the fire service is deep in tradition, like the iconic bagpipers, and extends far beyond state borders. The connection between firefighters in the state of New York here at home in South Carolina goes a lot further back than you may think. The guys are talking with Billy McMillan about the NY/SC bagpipe connections on this episode of In the Box.
8:00 p.m. – “After Hours” with Joe and Will
Join the guys as the recap the day at Fire-Rescue 2024 and look forward to tomorrow.
Saturday, June 15
9 a.m. — All things Explorers and the Competition with Will Catoe
The future of the fire service is in good hands, but having the leaders in place to pass down institutional knowledge of the craft is key. Will Catoe is joining the guys to talk about explorer/junior programs in departments and the upcoming Explorer/Junior competition.
9:45 a.m. — The Fire Officer Academy with Thomas Tardo
The Fire Officer Academy: The Company Officer welcomes its fifth cohort to the Fire Academy when FOA 24-02 starts at the end of September. Nearly 100 company officers from across South Carolina are alumni of the FOA. Thomas Tardo is one of the founding instructions of the FOA and is excited to join the guys for In the Box.
10:30 a.m. — Firehouse Culture with Michael Dozier
Captain Dozier is the man, myth, and legend behind popular Facebook blog The Company Officer. He’s an FDIC instructor, taught at Fire-Rescue several times, and has trained with firehouses across the country. The guys and Dozier are talking shop on this episode of In the Box.
11:15 a.m. — State Fire -CRR and You with Chris Sewell
South Carolina State Fire has made tremendous advancements in Community Risk Reduction in the last decade. Now a national leader in CRR with proven results on data driven decision making, the CRR division at State Fire continues to make great strides in saving the lives of South Carolinians. Chris Sewell is joining the guys for this CRR-focused episode of In the Box.
1 p.m. — Past Presidents’ Section with Carter Jones and Josh Holzheimer
Remaining engaged with the Association after serving as President is crucial to pass down knowledge and experiences to the next generation of leaders. Past Presidents Carter Jones and Josh Holzheimer join Joe and Will, also both Past Presidents, to discuss the importance of the role.
1:30 p.m. — The Incoming President’s Goals and Objectives with Randy Arant
After a successful year as 1st Vice President, Randy Arant will be sworn in tonight as President of the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association. Randy joins us for our final episode of In the Box for Fire-Rescue 2024 to discuss his vision for his Presidency and his hopes for the future of the South Carolina fire service.
