Fire Rescue Conference teams up with State IMTs
May 22, 2013
This year's Fire Rescue conference in Myrtle Beach will offer several new events, including a firefighters' night at the Pelicans baseball game, a firefighter muster and competition and a 5K fitness run. There will also be something else new going on behind the scenes. This year, we have teamed up with state Incident Mangement Teams (IMT) to help run this event. Specifically, we are working with the State IMT based at the S.C. Forestry Commission and the Pee Dee Regional IMT based in Florence County. The fire service has preached using incident command and incident management processes for years, and we are excited to formally integrate them into this event. Association staff and IMT personnel started planning the 2013 conference in August of 2012. Yes, as soon as one conference is over, we start planning the next. The plans section chief has created detailed IAPs for every operational period (each day of conference is a new operational period). When you see the printed organization chart (ICS-207), you get a better understanding of just how big this event is.
Command and general staff positions will be filled by Association staff and committee members, and each position will have an IMT member serve as deputy. This will allow all of us to learn from each other. The event command post will be located in room 203. Assignments are as follows:
- Incident Commander - Joe Palmer, Deputy - Mike Bozzo (SCFC IMT)
- Public Information Officer - Randy Webster (PD IMT)
- Safety Officer - Rick Dangerfield
- Liaison - Ken Kerber
- Operations Section Chief - Jason Pope, Deputy - Jonathan Calore (SCFC IMT)
- Plans Section Chief - Jonathan Jones, Deputy - Steve Moore (SCFC IMT)
- Logistics Section Chief - Ashley Boltin, Deputy - David Owen (SCFC IMT)
- Finance Section Chief - Janice Grunwald
