Facility Construction and Renovation Requests

May 13, 2013

The State Supervisory Committee met May 2, 2013 at the SCSFA office to discuss several issues regarding the Firemen's Insurance & Inspection Fund.  Topics discussed were Facility Construction/Renovation line items, future plans for revising the guidelines and planning of the much awaited online submission process. As a reminder, ONLY volunteer departments that are not funded by a political subdivision and who own their building are eligible to submit facility construction and renovation requests.  A copy of the deed must accompany the requests, or already be on file with the Association to proceed with the review process.  To aid in expediting the requests, please provide detailed information when submitting in this category. All facility construction/renovation requests require additional review time by the committee.  A great deal of dialogue between committee members is a necessity.  If there is another source of funds that can be utilized for your project, the committee recommends those funds should be used instead of the Firemen's Insurance and Inspection Fund.  The committee maintains the position that the fund is not intended to maintain a facility which would gain ISO credit (which is prohibited by Fund guidelines). These type of requests may fall under much scrutiny and it is in the best interest of the Association to address each on a case by case basis. As always, if you have a specific questions about the Firemen's Insurance & Inspection Fund please don't hesitate to contact us.
