Clemson Extension needs your help locating Grain Rescue Devices

January 9, 2025

Before the Grain Entrapment Simulator, grain rescue training was limited in South Carolina. With the development of this prop, many departments across South Carolina have received this training and began purchasing rescue devices to be used in the event of an entrapment. Through this project, the location of grain rescue devices would be determined with the goal of decreasing the time required for fire and rescue personnel to get equipment. Many departments in the more rural areas of South Carolina do not have the funds to purchase grain rescue equipment and must rely on other departments. When rescue teams are dispatched for an entrapment, they must locate a rescue device if their department does not have one. With the development of a web-based map, fire and rescue team members could quickly locate the nearest grain rescue device, resulting in quicker rescue times and a higher chance of survival for the entrapped victim.

Does your department have a grain rescue device (Great Wall of Rescue, Turtle Tube Grain Rescue Sleeve, GSI Res-Q-Tube, or an other type)? The Clemson Agricultural Safety Program is working to compile a list of all departments in South Carolina with a grain rescue device on site. Please complete this form to help Clemson Extension!
