An update on the proposed OSHA 1910.156 Emergency Response Standard

August 18, 2026

Representatives from the fire service, EMS, law enforcement, industry, and special operations today came together for a stakeholder meeting focused on the proposed OSHA 1910.156 Emergency Response Standard and South Carolina’s path toward implementing a state plan.
Labor, Licensing and Regulation Deputy Director Kristina Baker and her team joined the group to listen to the discussion, answer questions, and help folks understand the state plan process and the steps required to move it forward. The group was also heard from Dave Denniston, chair of the National Volunteer Fire Council’s OSHA Task Force, who provided an update on conversations happening at the federal level.
The goal is to develop a state plan that meets the intent of the standard while recognizing the realities faced by South Carolina’s emergency response communities.
Today’s conversation was an important part of that process. We appreciate LLR and everyone who came to the table ready to share their expertise, identify challenges, and work toward solutions for South Carolina.
