As another SC Fire & Rescue Conference is now recorded in the history books, I would like to thank everyone for their attendance and participation. As I have said so many times, we can plan everything down the smallest detail, bring in the finest speakers, offer the best training possible and fill up the exhibit hall with vendors, but without you, OUR MEMBERS, it would be a waste. I hope that your trip was enjoyable and that you took advantage of every possible opportunity made available to you FREE as a member of our great Association. Some of you may already be aware that this was the first joint conference with the SC State Association of Fire Chiefs. Thank you to all Chiefs that attended. I feel that this was a positive experience and trust that next year will be even better as we all work together to build on this first endeavor. I would be remiss if I did not thank some folks who made this entire event possible. Without the cooperation and effort by these people, there would be no conference. Joe Palmer and the Association staff work throughout the year to make this all happen. Thanks y’all. Chief Adolf Zubia, Chief Shane Ray and the Fire Academy staff made the training portion successful by providing AV equipment, instructors, training props and registration assistance. Robin and the Convention Center staff were constantly on the move taking care of issues as they arose. Chief Dan Cimini and the folks from George Fern worked to fill up the vendor hall and made it look easy. Eddie Wright and the Sound & Image crew added so much to all of the sessions and the memorial service with their expertise and “can do” attitude. Again, thanks to all of you. So, where do we go from here? First, tell us how you feel about the conference. Your Executive Committee members and I are excited about hearing what you have to say. Let us know what you liked and disliked. It is the only way we can improve on what we have done. Next, tell your friends and fellow firefighters about the positive experiences you had while attending the conference. Let them know what they missed. Encourage them and other firefighters to go ahead and make plans to join us next year! Third, apply what you learned. The face of the fire service changes constantly. Maintaining our training levels is the only way to keep us ready and keep our firefighters and public safe. Finally, get involved at home. Get to know your community. Invite your community and law makers to the fire station to participate with your firefighters. Let them know what you do for them, and how they can help you. Get involved in the Association by staying informed. Visit our website and on line training “mall”. Join us on Twitter. Call and ask questions and participate in Association events as much as possible. Working together and communications is the key to the success of the SC Fire Service.
