2nd Annual Fallen Fireman 5K Run/Walk

July 26, 2016

The 2nd Annual Fallen Fireman 5K Run/Walk is open for registration by visiting http://racesonline.com/events/jeff-chavis-5k.

The Fallen Fireman 5K is in Memory of Jeff Chavis Oct. 1st, 2016 at 10:00 AM supports the Jeffrey Vaden Chavis House at the Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, GA.

The Jeffrey Vaden Chavis house is named in memory of Jeff Chavis who began his firefighting career as an 18-year old volunteer for the Round Hill Fire Department in Lexington, SC. On July 12, 2001, at the age of 22 Jeff lost his life as a result of burns he suffered in the line of duty while fighting a residential fire. After his lost, the Chavis family along with Lexington County Fire Service wanted to do something in honor of Jeff that could help families be part of the care and recovery of their loved ones. Over the last decade as a community effort we have raised money to sponsor the Chavis House that is a home-away-from home that’s within walking distance of the Burn Center which sleeps forty-five guests, and serves approximately 1,000 guests a year. There, family members can be near their loved ones as they fight for survival and endure the long process of healing and rehabilitation as they recuperate from their burn injuries.

The Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides compassionate assistance to the families of patients being treated at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. They help meet the needs of the families while in Augusta and assist the patient with non-medical expenses related to follow-up care including: free lodging, daily meal service, transportation, medication, clothing, and anti-scarring garments.
