The purpose of this position is to perform handling any emergency or request for assistance from the public or any agencies in order to protect life and property. Responsible for providing efficient and immediate advanced life support (ALS) care to the critically ill or injured at the scene of the incident until the patient is transferred to the care of EMS or hospital personnel. At times providing ALS patient care during transport. This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks. Job Responsibilities -Responds to calls for fire, medical, hazmat, rescue and other natural and/or man-made emergencies. Carries out commands and tasks necessary to mitigate the emergency safely and efficiently; performs all duties and tasks assigned by supervisors. -Provides immediate lifesaving care while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. Aids higher-level EMS personnel on scene at emergencies and at times to the hospital. -Conducts Community Risk Reduction: customer surveys, recruiting events, blood pressure checks, school events, apparatus displays. -Cleans and maintains equipment: Cardiac Monitor, Medical Bags and Equipment, and Vehicle. -Performs station cleaning and maintenance duties. -Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Minimum Education and Training - Requires a high school graduation or GED equivalent. Must possess National Registry EMT – Paramedic, current ACLS Certification, current BLS Certification, and current PALS Certification. Must possess a valid state issued driver's license. Physical Requirements Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Involves routine and frequent exposure to: -Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. -Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. -Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife. -Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors. -Traffic; Moving machinery. -Electrical shock; Heights. -Radiation; Disease/pathogens. -Toxic/caustic chemicals; Explosives; Violence. -Other extreme hazards not listed above.
