The City of West Columbia has immediate Lateral Transfer openings for the position of Firefighter I. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a company officer or senior fire station personnel. This position engages directly in fire suppression, rescue, fire prevention, equipment operation and maintenance, fire station maintenance, community service, and training activities; does related work as required. Salary Range: $37,199.40 - $52,079.69, DOQ (Position Open Until Filled) MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possess a High School Diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a career firefighter or three (3) years as a volunteer firefighter. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of South Carolina within ninety (90) days of position appointment. Must possess: NFPA 1001 Firefighter II, NFPA 472 Haz-Mat Operations certifications, preferably IFSAC or Pro Board or equivalent. Must possess National Registry EMT certification or higher or obtain NREMT certification within twenty-four (24) months of employment.
