About Us: The Lady’s Island-St. Helena Fire District is committed to the citizens we serve, and we are dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment through effective fire prevention, emergency response, and community engagement. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our leadership team as Fire Chief.

Position Responsibilities: The Fire Chief reports directly to the Fire District Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor. The Fire Chief manages all District operations including fire suppression, emergency medical response, training, fire inspections, fire investigations and community outreach. This role involves supervising all personnel, approving policies, developing and presenting the annual budget, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities: • Overall management of Fire District operations. • Supervise and evaluate staff performance. • Approve policies and procedures. • Collaborate with local agencies, state agencies and community organizations. • Respond to emergency incidents as required. • Prepare reports and present findings to the Commission and other stakeholders. • Prepare and present budget to Commissioners for approval. • Ensure proper funding and resource allocation. • Identify district needs and present findings.

Qualifications: • Minimum of 15 years of fire service experience, with 5 years in a leadership position of the rank of Battalion Chief or higher. • Minimum training requirement of Fire Officer I and II, IFSAC or ProBoard. • NIMS ICS 100,200,300,400 • Strong knowledge of fire suppression techniques, emergency medical services, and fire safety regulations. Knowledge of special operations, hazmat, training, logistics, and emergency management. • Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations. • Experience in or assisting with the development of standard operating procedures, employee policies, budget development and administration of the approved budget. • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
