The Industrial Firefighter/Engineer position requires skills and abilities in driving and operating fire apparatus, properly positioning apparatus, operating pumps, securing water supplies, combating and extinguishing fires, performing rescues, providing emergency medical services (EMS) as assigned, conducting fire/safety inspections and education, participation in training programs as well as station, vehicle and equipment checks/maintenance. • Responds to emergency and non-emergency service requests according to Department policies/procedures. Requests include, but are not limited to, structural fires, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials, spills or releases, forcible entries, alarm investigations, rescue and salvage operations, extrication, confined space rescue, water rescue, and high-angle rope rescue. • Attends department training programs to include fire prevention, suppression, rescue, emergency management, EMS and other related skills or duties as directed by the Fire Chief. • Safely operate fire department apparatus during emergency responses and daily activities. • Perform daily checks and maintenance on apparatus and equipment to ensure operational readiness. • Performs assigned shift activities to include equipment checks, apparatus checks and safety inspections. Identified problems are to be immediately reported. • Performs duties in a safe manner and reports any unsafe or unusual activity and conditions to supervisors. • Completes necessary reporting and duties prior to the end of assigned shift. • Completes project assignments and performs assigned areas of responsibility as directed and within a timely manner to meet or exceed deadlines. • Acquires and retains a thorough knowledge of the service area, interior and exterior, to include streets, buildings, water supply, unusual hazards and related items. • Will be available for recall as determined by the Fire Chief. • Performs all related work as assigned. • Will respond to EMS medical calls as assigned. • May assist in the planning and evaluation of Department facilities, apparatus and equipment. • May be assigned duties to assist with public education, public relations and the promotion of a positive safety culture within the areas assigned. • Performs and/or assists in keeping work areas, equipment and apparatus in a clean and orderly condition. • Participates in emergency preparedness planning. • Provides recommendations and supporting documentation to the Fire Chief for department improvements. • Must be able to drive assigned vehicles in accordance to NorthStar’s driving policies. • Will adhere to NorthStar’s and Department specific Standard Operating Procedures. • Serves as a leader for the personnel assigned to the engine and may serve as the acting Company Officer if required, directed, or the situation dictates. • Performs other related duties as directed by superiors. Minimum Qualifications • Certification as Firefighter 2 • NFPA 1002 Ch. 4 or equivalent Emergency Vehicle Driver Training or Apparatus Operator (AO) Certification. • NFPA 1002 Ch. 5 or equivalent Fire Department Pumper Operations 1 • Pass a background check. • Successfully complete the departments physical agility requirements. • Must complete IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 within 1 month of hire. • Preference given to Firefighters who are an EMT Basic, Advanced or Paramedic. • Must be CPR certified. • May be required to meet additional site-specific requirements. https://www.northstar-ems.us/careers
