Epps Deputy Chief/Administrator South Lynches Fire Department 345 South Ron McNair Blvd. Lake City, SC 29560 Phone: 843-374-8690 Fax: 843-374-0025 [email protected] JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Fire Prevention Officer/Firefighter The Fire Prevention Officer position is a multiple purpose position that will carry out the duties necessary to provide the fire department with a fire prevention program and water supply program. The individual in this position will assume the following general responsibilities: • Establish and maintain a building fire pre-plan program for all commercial and public occupancy structures within the fire district o Maintain all necessary records. o Update and upload Fire Pre-Plans to Active 911 App. o Enter fire pre-plan data into the fire department database. o Maintain Knox Box building entry program. • Coordinate all fire prevention activities to include, but not limited to o Smoke detector installation program. o Public safety messages. o Fire prevention programs. o Strive to maintain SC Fire Safe Certification. o Assist with social media to include Facebook and Web Site. • Maintain fire hydrant testing program o Maintain a current listing of all fire hydrants within the fire district. o Maintain a program to flow test or coordinate the flow testing of each fire hydrant so each hydrant is tested no less than once every three (3) years. o Maintain a program to coordinate with a contractor, or fire stations the inspection of each hydrant that does not require flow testing each year. o Adjust flow testing and inspections, as necessary, to meet current Insurance Services Organization (ISO) requirements. o Establish and conduct weed control measures around each fire hydrant each year. o Paint hydrants, as necessary, to provide an acceptable visual condition to each fire hydrant. o Maintain all necessary records and enter in fire department database. o Submit documentation, as necessary, to all hydrant system providers. • Maintain a static (ponds) water supply program o Add and delete static water point locations to maintain a current listing of all static water point locations utilized by the fire district. o Coordinate with each fire station the inspection of each location within their response once per year. • Maintain a fire hose testing program o Maintain a listing of all in-service fire hose. o Solicit bids from testing companies for the annual testing of all in-service fire hose and coordinate the testing with the winning bidder. o Maintain testing records for all fire hose and enter in fire department database. • Responds to emergency incidents during normal working hours and may be required to respond to emergencies after normal working hours. • Performs firefighting duties to include entering immediately dangerous to life and health environments while wearing self-contained breathing apparatus to perform fire control, search/rescue, and other firefighting duties. Performs various technical rescue operations, deals with hazardous materials incidents, and performs patient care. • Completes fire reports, maintenance reports, fire hydrant testing reports, equipment maintenance reports, and assists with entering various records into the fire department database. • Attends training, seminars, and meetings to remain knowledgeable of current fire suppression & fire prevention activities. Maintains required certifications as necessary. • Perform various administrative duties as required, including but not limited to, completing reports, filing documents, entering computer data, attending meetings, answering telephone calls, and assisting the public with various needs. • Any other duties as directed by Supervisor or the Fire Chief. Minimum requirements: • Must have a high school diploma. (Copy must accompany resume) • IFSAC Firefighter I (Firefighter II Preferred) • Emergency Vehicle Driver Training • Pump Operations Training & knowledge of rural water supply operations • Aerial Operations (Preferred) • South Carolina Class E Driver’s License or CDL • Basic Auto Extrication • Hazardous Materials Operations • NIMS 100, 200,700,800 (Ability to obtain ICS 300,400) • Medical First Responder (Certificate must be submitted with resume) • Copy of 10 Year Driving Record • Must Complete & Pass Firefighter Physical • Must be physically able to perform all firefighter duties. • Must be proficient with computers, data entry, and have strong organizational skills. • Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Example: some nights, some weekends, and possibly responding to emergency calls after normal working hours if requested. Salary Range Depending on Qualifications/Position Open Until Filled
