Full-Time $48,000 - $55,000 Annually GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under limited supervision, is responsible for inspecting buildings in the County to ensure they meet currently adopted fire codes and standards. Performs fire plan reviews. Investigates origin and cause of building fires. Reports to the County Fire Chief. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Inspects new and existing buildings and structures to identify potential fire code violations. Perform building plan reviews and issues capacity certifications. Ensure buildings are equipped with proper fire protection equipment, to include fire extinguishers. Identify fire code violations. Prepare inspection reports in a timely manner and provide occupant with findings. Perform follow-up inspections to bring properties into compliance. Check for accumulations of combustible material, to include electrical wiring problems, and inadequate or non-functional fire exits and fire protection equipment. Inspect and verify functionality of fire protection systems and hood systems. Ensure buildings are in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations and standards. Write and file reports in our reporting system. Inspect properties that store, handle, and use hazardous materials to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations. Investigates origin and cause of fires and prepares reports of investigations. Keep abreast of current fire safety codes and investigation procedures. Attend classes as required. Ability to work with little to no supervision. Review permit applications. Issue fire permits as required. Review and approve any inspection reports prepared by other assigned personnel. Responds to emergency calls as needed. Must attend approved classes for continuing education to maintain certification. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs related duties as required. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent and four years related work experience, with at least one-year in a supervisory role. Must be Certified SC State Fire Marshal. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have EVDT certification or obtain it within 1 year of hire date. Basic Fire Investigation certification (SCFA or NFA) and NFPA Firefighter 1 preferred. Obtain ICC Fire Plans Examiner Certification within one-year of hire date.
