Salary Range $115,561.00 - $173,342.00 Salary/year The purpose of this job within the organization is to plan, organize and direct Fire Department operations, ensuring departmental compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws regulations and standards of safety. This position formulates long-range goals for the organization, develop policy and position papers and negotiate with the chief administrative officer and/or elected officials. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in business or public administration, fire science/technology or related field. A combination of job related experience, professional training and certifications may be considered equivalent. Requires ten years of progressive experience and training in fire service programs and management or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses: Valid Class E Driver's License NFPA Firefighter I NFPA Firefighter II OSHA Hazardous Materials Technician NFA NIMS 300and 400 Incident Command Fire Officer I Fire Officer II Fire Instructor I Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills. Work is performed onsite. The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job. Essential Job Functions: Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates all fire department programs, including fire prevention, training, suppression and administration. Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis for decision making and to improve communications throughout the department; attends meetings involving city management, city council, business/property owners, the news media, and other organizations. Prepares and administers the department’s annual budget; oversees department procurement; reviews and gives departmental approval to specifications for new equipment and apparatus. Directs the preparation and analysis of departmental records and reports to ensure efficient operations, meet service demands and to comply with authorized requests for information regarding departmental activities and personnel. Prepares and processes a variety of documents, including performance appraisals, budget documents, annual reports, statistical reports, memos, correspondence, etc. Assigns workloads and establishes work schedules, supervisory duties include instructing, assigning, reviewing, and planning the work of others. Addresses civic and other groups regarding activities and programs of the fire department; explains departmental operations and promotes public understanding, awareness, and relations. Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needed.
