The City of Anderson is seeking a Fire Chief, current Chief is retiring after a 38-year career, including 4 years as Chief. The City of Anderson is in the northwest corner of the state of South Carolina on the Piedmont Plateau. It is the county seat located in the geographical center of the county and principal city in Anderson County. The City is ideally located on the busy Interstate 85 corridor, to which much of its economic growth can be attributed. The City lies on the southern border of Interstate 85 and is approximately 127 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia and 132 miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina. Department includes 65 paid staff. Position Description: Under general administrative direction of City Manager, provides leadership, management, and guidance of all Fire Department services. Directs the development and implementation of the Fire Department Strategic Plan. Plans, direct, and coordinates the work plan through subordinate staff. Ensures that all fire/life safety codes are fairly enforced. Plans and implements new fire stations as needed. Develops and monitors annual budget. Responsible for department budget of $4 million. Education, Training and Experience: prefer a BA degree in business or financial management from an accredited college or university; minimum 10 years of service with a recognized paid Fire Department; or any equivalent combination of education and experiences which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Executive Fire Officer Certification is desirable. Necessary Special Requirements: Completion of training and certification as a Firefighter by the State of South Carolina.
