Under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Administration, manages the overall operation of the Fire Department Shop, ensuring the attainment of operational goals and priorities. Inspects all components and systems of a fire apparatus including engine, brakes, pumps, tires, aerial device, frame, body, and electrical systems. Perform range of routine to complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic system diagnostics and repairs for the Fire fleet. Assists the Department with the budgeting and procurement of new equipment and apparatus. Ensures the Fire fleet and equipment are kept in a state of operating excellence so that Fire Department vehicles present no problems or interruptions to services. Ensure Fire fleet operations and repairs comply with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies. Performs vehicle test drives to ensure safe operation and diagnose possible mechanical issues. Maintains records to ensure the proper entry of vehicle and equipment records. Makes decisions regarding the operational status of Fire Department vehicles. Serves on-call status
