The City of North Myrtle Beach Fire Department is a mid-sized fire agency comprised of 69 Full-time employees. 60 Personnel are assigned to the Operations Division on a 24/48 shift schedule. Shift Staffing consists of 1 Battalion Chief, 6 Lieutenants, 6 Engineers and 7 Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter 1st Class positions. This provides daily staffing for 6 Engine Companies and 1 Truck Company. Administrative staff includes the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief. The Fire Training Division consists of a Division Chief, 1 Fire Training Captain and 1 Health/Safety Captain. The Fire Marshal’s Office consists of a Division Chief and 3 Deputy Fire Marshals. The Department currently operates out of 5 fire stations with 2 new stations in the process of being added over the next couple of years. With a budget of almost 6.5 million dollars the Department supports Administrative, Operational, Training and Fire Marshal Divisions. The Department responded to 6233 incidents in 2022 and has seen a steady increase in call volume over the past decade. The Deputy Fire Chief, under the direction of the Fire Chief, will manage, direct, and coordinate the day to day operations of the Operations Division working in conjunction with the Fire Training division and Fire Marshal’s Office. The Deputy Fire Chief will also perform administrative duties such as assisting with budget preparation, controlling expenditures, drafting policies and procedures, conducting investigations and other related tasks. With its nine miles of sandy ocean beach, North Myrtle Beach is part of South Carolina’s beautiful vibrant “Grand Strand.” The City of North Myrtle Beach is comprised of approximately 17 ½ square miles with a year around population of 19,000+ residents. That number swells to approximately 38,000+ during daily working hours and swells to over 100,000+ during our tourist season. Tourism is our primary industry, and we are known for our hospitable southern family beach atmosphere, nine miles of wide beaches, a wide variety of shopping opportunities, championship 18-hole golf courses, restaurants, entertainment, ocean fishing and much more. The ideal candidate for the position of Deputy Fire Chief must bring a flexible “can-do” approach to our City. Must build and maintain trust within our organization and the community, while directing and leading all Fire Department operations and activities to maximize effective and efficient service to the community of North Myrtle Beach. Must be a strong, open communicator both internally and externally. Shall possess excellent leadership and management skills to include collaborative problem solving. Be a positive representative of our Fire Department and City. Residency requirement – the Deputy Fire Chief must reside full time within the City of North Myrtle Beach within 12 months of appointment date. Relocation expenses may be negotiated as appropriate.
