Brook Dennis, a native of Estill, South Carolina, is a proud first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from the University of South Carolina. Her undergraduate journey started with dreams of standing on the sidelines of college football games reporting for SEC Network, but she quickly discovered that nonprofit work is where she belongs and has exclusively worked for nonprofits since graduation. Prior to joining the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association, Brook worked as Communications Coordinator for the South Carolina Association of CPAs and as Content Strategist for the South Carolina Bar.
When she’s not in the Lowcountry visiting her loved ones, Brook can be found spending lazy days with her husband, Joe, and their two cats, Millicent (Millie) and Matilda (Tillie). Brook, like her name suggests, loves the water and is hopeful to one day retire with a waterfront view.
Brook comes from a strong firefighter family and credits them – particularly her grandfather, Gene Rushing, her “Pops” – for her love, dedication, and admiration for the firefighter community. The selflessness it takes to risk one’s life for someone who may be a complete stranger is not lost on her, and she is excited to improve the Association’s strategic communications while highlighting the stories of local heroes.
