We are looking for a Fire Data Analyst to join the City of Charleston's Fire Department! In this role, you will analyze, evaluate, and manage data and systems for the Fire Department and perform complex analyses including geographic mapping to assist with operations, management, and strategic planning. Basic Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent in public or business administration, fire administration, information management or related field and 1 year of related experience and/or training in data analysis; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Valid driver’s license. - Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with ESRI ArcMap and GIS concepts and functions and SQL queries or similar preferred. - Experience with one or more of: ESO FireHouse, Alastar, StatsFD, Kronos TeleStaff, and/or TargetSolutions strongly preferred. Extracts and manages data from dispatch and Fire Department databases. Cleans and manipulates large datasets for analysis, developing and managing data standards and reporting tools as well as supporting data integration with other agencies. Analyzes data and other information relevant to fires and other emergency responses to identify trends, patterns and community information to assist with proper response coverage and to enhance community risk reduction efforts. Identifies response patterns utilizing daily run data, computer information and fire statistics comparisons. Interprets and prepares data for reports, studies and recommendations for Fire Departments and other public agencies. Utilizes fire applications to analyze and interpret data to assist the department with the department strategic plan. Prepares and distributes reports, charts, publications and related material to track, display, and report on fire analysis activities and community risk reduction. Utilizes geographic information systems (GIS) technology to transform data into actionable intelligence in order to visualize, analyze, interpret, and determine patterns and trends. Provides support to ongoing activities and assists in the production of analytic products departmental planning and for presentations to public safety and local government partners. Supports agency accreditation requirements including Community Risk Assessment & Standards of Cover (CRA-SOC) and Fire and Emergency Services Self-Assessment (FESSA) and produces response performance and deployment analyses as well as charts and graphs for use in accreditation documents and department reports. Coordinates analysis activities with other City departments and outside agencies. Serves as a liaison to the Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch Center to ensure all data and reports are submitted on time which requires knowledge of SQL scripts. Manages assigned software and coordinates updates, testing, and training through the City IT Department, makes recommendations on technological improvements, and serves as the departmental point of contact with software vendors and outside agencies. Analyzes, evaluates, tests, debugs, and supports applications to ensure systems are operating properly. Develops and maintains technical documentation, internal operating procedures, user manuals and instructional materials. Conducts training programs on software applications and trains employees on project-related data procedures and guidelines. Assists in the gathering of data for weekly Command Staff meetings and monthly reports. Assists in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of fires, emergency response activities, and aiding community risk reduction efforts. Analyzes the performance measurement process to ensure improvement of organizational efficiency and effectiveness, including the use of performance indicators. Liaises with local, state, and federal response agencies to ensure a constant flow of communication and exchange information. Performs other duties as assigned.
