SAFER Grant and Volunteers

With Department of Homeland Security SAFER proceeds, the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association has been pleased to financially assist fire departments to provide training, fitness for duty physicals, and personal protective equipment for new volunteer firefighters in the following counties:

  • Berkeley
  • Calhoun
  • Laurens
  • Marlboro
  • McCormick
  • Union

New volunteer firefighters in these counties can be funded through this SAFER program. Time is of the essence with the grant closing in early September.

  • Edgefield
  • Hampton
  • Jasper
  • Laurens
  • Marion
  • Marlboro
  • McCormick
  • Saluda

Local agencies without budgeted funds for adding volunteer firefighters, may utilize grant proceeds for the costs of training, fitness for duty physicals, and head-to-toe structural personal protective equipment.
